ASK “CARPQUEST” ?
I have recently have a number of fans ask me about my previous “obsessions”, before I returned to carp fishing in 2012, after a 25 year hiatus!
Well, I used to be very passionate about saltwater aquariums.
I had a small one back in the UK. After moving to the USA, and with the help of the very knowledgeable people at SCMAS club (The Southern Colorado Marine Aquarist Society), I finally ended up with a stable system.
It literally took 4 YEARS go get to this point.
You would be amazed at how much you can learn about healthy and balanced ecosystems trying to keep a saltwater system running! From the effects of temperature on oxygenation, to PH, salinity, water hardness, purity, RO/DI systems and so on. You almost had to have a degree in marine biology to keep a tank running – however, the final rewards are well worth the effort.
Sadly I had to break the tank down, give away the livestock, when I moved to GA for work for a year. If i ever win the lottery, I will be certain to build another one!
There was a picture of my old system, in January 2009.
A 180 gallon reef tank.
Hope you enjoy!
Tight-Lines,
John
