In this weeks episode of CarpQuest, we returned again to Adams County Fairgrounds, following the months of torrential rain and flooding. Though our swim was flooded and under water, we got setup further back on the peninsula and got our lines out.
The session did not start out as planned, i discovered I had lost the legs to my NGT rod-pod. Thankfully I had a spare, the NGT small bank stick and buzz bar set in the carryall, so was able to get setup.
I do admit, having setup the sticks and buzz bar, they were easy to setup and worked well. Early signs on activity were good, carp could be seen rolling in the distance and tailing together on the surface. With the recent warm weather it was likely some pre-spawning behaviors – perhaps not a good sign if the carp were carousing and not interested in feeding.
Having gotten setup, I sat back in my chair, coffee in hand. My chair promptly broke, pouring coffee all over myself ! Arg ! Ron is a great friend and actually brought me another chair, to replace the broken one.
The session was to be a slow and hot day. I did manage to bank three nice commons, each around the 13 lb mark. We did see a few big fish jumping in the distance but they stayed pretty much out in the middle of the lake.
As the session drew to a close, the courtship and pre-spawning behaviors resumed across the lake as the fish started to head in towards the weeds and the shallows.
My i’ll fortune continued as the replacement chair from Ron also collapsed beneath me. We decided to leave the carp to their spawning and headed home for the day.
