CarpQuest – S2E2 – Quail Lake Carp Fishing – Rigs, PVA sticks and a Puppy
A very quick session at Quail Lake, Colorado Springs, to test rigs, practice tying and using PVA sticks and finally, to see how my my puppy “Raven” deals with fishing – this was to be her first time on the bank with a rod out in the water.
It was a sunny late winters day when we arrived with temps creeping up towards 70F by the end of the session a few hours later.
Throughout the session we were tormented by trout. We were to discover from a passerby that the lake had just been stocked with 2000+ trout which is why it was crawling with anglers.
I was travelling so light for this trip that I left my hanger at home. I found out you can make an emergency hanger from a broken stick. It worked, after a fashion, certainly indicated those trout nibbles well!
I discovered that sweetcorn out the can & PVA do not mix when my mesh stick dissolved in my fingers.
Finally, Raven seems to cope well with sitting at a lake for a few hours! She spent her time watching other anglers, fly fishermen in their belly boats out on the lake, people walking on the path behind. She was particularly adept at digging a hole and using it to collect up the sticks and her bone within.
All told it was a good quick session to start the season off with.
Tight Lines,
