CarpQuest – S2E17 – Adams County Carp Fishing – Battle at the Fairgrounds – Part 2

CarpQuest – S2E17 – Adams County Carp Fishing – Battle at the Fairgrounds – Part 2

Our season long carping contest, England v Canada, continued at the Fairgrounds. After his defeat a week prior Ron was eager for revenge and victory for Canada.

Ron had changed his baits to Nash’s Instant Action Coconut Creme. We also swapped swims from the previous week to ensure fairness.

Soon after we arrived the our lines were cast out and the battle commenced. No mercy was offered and no quarter would be given!

The current score was 2 wins for England, 2 for Canada and 2 draws.

The early signs were good and the carp were showing. Weather predictions were favorable, there was a light breeze and the temps were anticipated to hit mid 70s.

After a couple of quiet hours Ron hooked into the first fish of the day, a powerful fighting 9 lb common. He was very pleased and the trash talk heading my way was rampant!

Soon after I had a nice run on a pair of 15mm Live System boilies and 11 lb 6oz common graced my net. The score was even and I held a slender couple of pound total weight lead.

Sadly Ron lost the next capture to a hook pull, I offered no sympathy and even managed to get some video of his years, well, almost tears.

Soon afterwards another carp was in the cradle for Canada and 12 lb 8 oz common fell to the Nash Instant Action, Coconut Creme. His calls for me to sing “Oh Canada” fell on deaf ears, it simply, was not going to happen!

During our lunch break I had a nice run on the rod with the 24 mm Live System popped up with a Hellraiser acid pear. End result, a real chunky 16 lb 4 oz common. Sadly my lead for England was all but instantly eradicated as Ron had a double capture, a 14 lb 6 common and a 14 lb common.

With lunch time over Ron and Canada had a 4-2 fish count, and 20lb lead. There was still plenty of time for a come back – or so I hoped!

Another hour or so passed with the tension building. The playful banter kept us amused as we waited to see who would be fish-on next. Ron broke the silence with another capture, a real nice 15 lb 10 oz common, this time on a Dynamite Baits, Banana flavored boilie with a strawberry pop-up.

“Those who can’t do, teach!”, “The Pupil has surpassed the Master!” – were some of the kind words Ron uttered holding his latest prize.

With 5 carp now banked it would be fair to say, he was a very happy man.

Finally, an hour later, I saw a carp showing near my spot and recast out towards it. My efforts were soon rewarded with the largest fish of the day at 17 lb 9 oz. This beauty fell also fell to the 24mm with the acid pear pop-up. There was still hope !

For a while Ron looked slightly worried, I suspect, deep down inside, fearing a sudden come back from England.

However, just before 5pm he hooked into yet another carp, his 6th for the day, a real slender hard fighting 15 lb 2 oz common. Though I was not yet ready to concede defeat we both realized it was all over.

To add insult to injury Ron banked yet another carp, a nice 12 lb 11 oz common to end the day. He had firmly planted that virtual “Doc Marten” boot upon my throat as he celebrated his victory.

All told it was one great days fishing. Tremendous fun, banter and 10 carpy captures. Fins-Up to Ron & Canada for delivering to me a soul crushing defeat.

I silently endured the long “walk of shame” back to the car park.

Though Ron and Canada may have won this battle, they certainly, haven’t won the war!

Tight-Lines,
John
