CarpQuest – S2E11 – Cherry Creek Carp Fishing – Jet Ski’s and Carp
In this episode of CarpQuest I fish Cherry Creek Reservoir, in the City of Aurora, Colorado. I had visited this venue a week before to quickly scout out some spots. I had heard the Marina end was good for carp.
Arriving on a Monday afternoon I had presumed, incorrectly, the park would be quiet. It was a madhouse of boats, jet’skiers and other visitors. I setup and sat back to watch the water sports.
After a few hours passed a strong storm blew in. I decided to tough it out as there was no lightning. Fortunately the storm was through quickly and I was rewarded with my first Cherry Creek common carp, a nice 15 lb, 10z common.
Another hour passed and the crazy water goers were back out there again. Amidst the spray, the skiers, the party boats, the ants crawling and biting my feet, I got into another nice fish and was rewarded with a 10 lb common.
The weather gods did not shine down upon me for much longer and another strong storm blew in. I had one last run, a powerful fish, took a good 50 yards of line before my leadcore leader was cut-off. I was not a happy man!
With flashes of lightning, and thunder in the distance, I called it quits and headed home.
Not a bad first session at a new reservoir. A couple of carp landed. I shall be returning to this venue again for sure!
Tight-Lines,
John
