CarpQuest – S1E9 – Runyon Lake Carp Fishing
A return to Runyon lake fishing with my friend Roland. This peaceful trip was shattered when these two expatriates became a wee bit competitive and turned the day into a repeat of the England v. Germany Soccer 1966 World Cup Final – with CARP !
Temperatures were in the 70s though it was quite overcast with ominous storm clouds.
I was fishing with big-bob’s corn on the hair with a panko/oats based packbait.
As with my previous trip to this venue the carp were showing frequently. I decided to pick a swim with good access for the two of us and a nice tree overhanging the lake to my left. It did not take long for the carp action to get going and I soon had a scaled beauty upon the bankside. A few more carp followed quickly.
Roland, whom had been targeting trout, decided to switch rigs, we re-spooled his reel with some braid and got him cast out. Soon after. Soon after Roland also had his first carp on the bank.
Sadly, after a few hours, the thunderstorm blew in, torrential rain soaked us and we called it quits. In total I landed 6 carp and Roland landed 3 carp.
We decided to call our England v Germany friendly match a draw – with “rain stopped play” as the final result.
Tight-Lines,
John
