CarpQuest – S1E8 – Chatfield Carp Fishing – Carp Carnage – Part 1
On a sunny Sunday afternoon I decided to head up to Chatfield Reservoir for a picnic with my wife and our dog Ripley. Having never fished this venue before I was compelled to take my rods and toss some lines out in the water.
I do admit to having done some extensive prior reach on this venue. Trophy sized captures from this water were not uncommon and many had been reported to the Parks & Wildlife over the past few years.
I selected the Roxborough Cove side of the lake to fish from. This was conveniently located near a restroom and offered hundreds of yards of bankside space.
Fished with both rods, panko packbait, big bobs corn on the hair with an enterprise popup. Hardly had I finished my lunch, taken a sip of the coffee, when the carp arrived and decided to join the party. CarpQuest was ON again and the Carp Carnage had just begun!
For a brief afternoon session, I ended up banking 6 carp, 2 lost (one cut my leader off) from 8.5 pounds through 16.5 pounds, average being around 13 lbs. A glorious afternoon of fishing.
I did break one of my Daiwa Mad Dragon rods in half on the 2nd fish of the day, a little feisty 11 lb common, when i slipped in the gravel with fish at the net.
What a session !
Tight-Lines,
John
