CarpQuest – S1E28 – Utah 2013 Carp Fishing – Bear Lake – Part 3
Highlights from my second day session at Bear Lake in Utah whilst on vacation.
The first days fishing had ended quite well, a lot of mirror carp were landed, yet they all seemed on the small side. Was that to be a trend at this lake ? would all the fish be between the 2 to 8 lb mark ? Well, it was time to get the rods out and find out. I decided to fish close to the spot from the day before, perhaps a little further up the shoreline due to the sandy mud turning into a quagmire sucking unsuspecting people down into it’s depths! Again I went with the panko/oats based packbait, sweetcorn or giant tutti-fruiti flavored maize on the hair.
Much like the day before, the action was slow, but steady. In a few hours I had a couple of runs and landed a couple of nice mirrors, 3’12 lb, and perhaps my smallest carp ever, at 1 lb 15oz!
I decided for the afternoon to go with slightly larger bait offerings, more corn on the hair, a couple of pieces of giant maize, rather than just one. Hey, bigger baits = bigger fish ? that was my hope at least !
Tight-Lines,
John
