CarpQuest – S1E26 – Utah 2013 Carp Fishing – Bear Lake – Part 1
My wife and I finally got a weeks vacation mid September. We drove up and over to Bear Lake in Utah. After a couple of days relaxing the lure of the lake and carp beneath those crystal clear waters was too much to take.
I had done some extensive research on Bear Lake before the trip. A natural freshwater lake on the Utah-Idaho border. It is the second largest natural freshwater lake in Utah and has been called the “Caribbean of the Rockies” for its unique turquoise-blue color, which is due to the reflection of limestone deposits suspended in the lake.
Bear Lake is over 250,000 years old. It was formed by fault subsidence that continues today, slowly deepening the lake along the eastern side.
On a cold morning I trudged down to the waters edge for a quick morning session and the quest for carp was on once again. It did not take long to get into the action. My first Bear Lake mirror carp.
To add icing to the bear cake, it turned out to be a double !
Though not large fish they were stunning and scale perfect in every way – what a great start to the CarpQuest Bear Lake Campaign !
Tight-Lines,
John
