CarpQuest – S1E25 – Boyd Lake Carp – FXR Young vs Old Guys
Highlights from my trip up to Boyd Lake to compete in a Young v. Old guys multi species fishing tournament hosted by FXR (Fishexplorer.com).
The goal was to catch as many different species of fish and then points were awarded for your best fish of each species vs. the master angler length.
Sadly I only managed to get a little footage so apologies for the brief nature of this highlights reel.
It was one very hot late summer’s day with temperatures peaking around the low 100s where we setup. Poor Chris, he totally melted, literally !
The bank side was like a mud-pit and we had great difficulty avoiding sinking up to our knees in the sucking doom beneath us.
I spent the day fishing two rods, one for carp and the other was deployed with night crawlers. I even tried my hand at spinning baits and a fake crayfish lure. Turns out I am pretty proficient at one thing, that’s catching carp !!!! I was unable to catch anything else but my golden beauties.
I was fishing with Chris (C-DOG) and he was able to catch some bluegills. At the end of the contest we finished with but a single fish species caught each. We did get the big fish of the day with my 28″ common carp weighing 10 lbs 6 oz – so not a total loss.
My scorecard ended with 4 common carp, the 10’6, a 7’2, 6 and a 8’9 lbs.
Sadly, we “young” guys were soundly defeated by the old guard.
Ok, we were totally slaughtered, I admit it !
Congrats “Old Guys”!
Tight-Lines,
John
