CarpQuest – S1E20 – Chatfield Carp Fishing
On a warm Tuesday afternoon my wife and I returned once again to Chatfield with our dog, Ripley. I had received an “early” birthday present from my wife, the Nash Kaptive Retainer Sling XL, and wanted to test it out. We brought a few sandwiches for the session and I quickly got setup as we only had a few short hours before we needed to head home.
I fished with both rods, a panko/oats based packbait and the big-bob’s corn on the hair.
Chatfield gave forth another birthday gift and a real nice 17 lb 9 oz was landed and christened the retainer sling. The sling worked great, providing a stable platform for transporting the fish for weighing and return to the water afterwards.
I landed another common carp, a real feisty little 7 lb 6 oz scrapper.
With our time over we made the drive home. We stopped off for some Krispy Kreme donuts on the way.
It was a sweet end to a sweet afternoon!
Little did I know that this would be the last fishing trip my dog, Ripley, would be able to come on. She passed away a month later, aged 11. I miss her still.
Tight-Lines,
John
