CarpQuest – S1E17 – Pikeview Reservoir Carp Fishing
It was the last day if Spring and the heat wave continued. I decided to take a quick trip down to my local haunt, Pikeview Reservoir and get in a short session. Though still early in the day it was blisteringly hot, temps quickly spiking into the 90s.
I fished both rods, the standard panko based packbait with sweetcorn on the hair. This bait combination had banked me some nice fish a few days earlier and I hope to continue this success.
Well, the session was a hot one, temperature wise. For a few hours I sat and baked in the sun. The entertainment was provided watching carp spawning behaviors in the shallows. It was fascinating to watch the gravid females being followed around by packs of amorous makes. To avoid the actual spawning I had cast out further than usual towards the center of the lake.
It was getting late in the morning and I seriously was considering calling it a day.
The carp gods decided to favor me for my suffering and I had a quick run. The end result, was a real nice 17 lb 14 oz common carp. After taking a quick bit of video, a few photos, i returned the fish to the water and decided to call it a day.
Tight-Lines,
John
