CarpQuest – S1E14 – Chatfield Carp Fishing – Three Amigos
I returned again to Chatfield Reservoir this Friday, 31st March. This time I took along a pair of new carp fanatics I have been corrupting these past months, Chris & James. It was James’s birthday so I just had to help get him into some double digit fish, and Chris also wanted to bank a 10+ bar of gold.
What a day’s fishing this turned out to be – way beyond any expectations any of us could have had before we set out on the long drive up to Denver through miles of road works on the I25.
We arrived at the shore around 10am and got setup. We were fishing 2 rods each. I was using my now “old faithful” oats & corn pack, Big-Bobs mussel flavored corn with a pop-up on the hair. Chris deployed his favorite panko pack with sweet corn on the hair. James employed a strawberry dough bait on a coil/hair off the hook – he though did later switch to corn.
By the end of the day, 6pm, we had banked 5 PB’s between the 3 of us. Both Chris and James landed their PB commons and mirrors and I landed my PB common at 37 lb’s 5 oz. “Carpzilla”. She would have been a new CO State Record but I refused to send her corpse to the DOW to be examined upon a cold slab – wasn’t going to happen!
IMHO: there are more important things in life than letters upon on a page – she was a Golden Beauty and *had* to be released to swim, spawn, and one day, be caught again !
Tight-Lines,
John
