CarpQuest – S1E13 – Colorado State Record Common Carp
Chatfield Reservoir has not failed to deliver this year. A week before I had banked a new PB common carp at 28 lb’s 6 oz from this venue. I believe that was a huge fish for this water but hoped that perhaps a 30 might be in Chatfield somewhere. I certainly did not expect to catch one, so soon.
The full footage of this capture can be viewed in S1E14 – Three Amigos Go Carping, however, I wanted to give this special capture it’s own video highlight.
So, here’s the cut-down footage for the stunning 37 lb 5oz common carp I landed during my Friday session up at Chatfield Reservoir on the last day of May, 2013.
She would have been the new CO State Record for a common carp by weight (current is 35 oz 5 oz). However, in the State of Colorado the fish needs to “die” to get that record – be examined by the Parks and Wildlife to confirm species and ensure no “foreign” objects are present.
So, rather than get my name in the record books, I released this beautiful fish go to spawn and be caught again in the future. What a beauty – some things are more important than letters on a page!
We nicknamed this capture, “CarpZilla” – she was a true monster !
Tight-Lines,
John
