CarpQuest – S1E23 – Pikeview Reservoir Fishing – Spawning Carp, Blue Heron
The summer heat continued and I made another couple of trips to Pikeview Reservoir.
For theĀ first session I fished with James. It was a pleasant morning session, temps in the mid 70s, light wind and a few clouds. I only used one rod, due to limited space, panko/oats packbait and sweetcorn on the hair. The weeds were very problematic and I had two carp snap offs due to the hooklink being simply just too weak to drag them out of the snags. I did finally managed to bank one, a welcome 10 lb 10 oz common. Given that the carp were spawning off to our right we eventually packed it in after a few hours.
For the second session, again with James, I went with a stronger 15 lb braided hooklink. The conditions were not ideal, hot, sunny, no wind. Again I fished with just the one rod but did bank another during a short period of light wind, a nice common at 9 lb 12 oz.
Watch out for the carp jumping right behind me as I am commenting on the first carp by the cradle – obviously he was a fan of CarpQuest !
Tight-Lines,
John
