CarpQuest – S1E16 – Pikeview Carp Fishing – Angry Grass Carp
An early morning late Spring session at my local fishing hole, Pikeview Reservoir.
This was my 11th session here this year and I was still trying to bank my first carp of the season from this location. Would today’s session be any different ? Pikeview fishes hard, it comes under a lot of pressure from the locals. Nearby traffic, a dog boarding kennels, feed & seed, provide much disturbance.
Having fished Pikeview for a few years I had come to believe that it had a small number of good sized common carp. These old warriors are cautions, wary, easily spooked and do not fall easily to capture.
This session was to be a HOT one, the mercury pushed up towards 92F and the sun burned down from above. I was fishing with both rods, in about 6-8ft of water, a plain panko packbait, with sweet corn on the hair.
Pikeview decided to finally give up a surprise, for my long hard efforts. I banked my first ever grass carp, one angry fish that gave me a beating and a torpedo at 22 lbs in weight!
I was also rewarded with a couple of nice high double commons.
The session was a good one and it goes to show, though you think you may know what’s beneath the waters surface, you may be surprised what you pull out !
Tight-Lines,
John
