CarpQuest – S2 extra – Chatfield Carp Fishing – Blanking with National Guard Helicopters!
Take a sunny spring morning at your favorite venue. Add a squadron of National Guard helicopters practicing for fire suppression. You have a great recipe for a blank.
It was early spring and Chris, my wife, our dog Raven, took the opportunity to head up to Chatfield for a quick session. When we arrived, access to our usual swim was blocked – we were not sure why. We traveled around the reservoir and finally got setup of a peninsula overlooking the east side.
It was a really nice day, we had our lines out, expectations were high for an early season bite.
Then the noise began, engine noises. Looking out back towards out usual swim we could see activity on the ground. Soon after a helicopter lifted off, a large bucket hanging beneath, out over the water. The bucket was filled, the helicopter flew back and dumped it over some trees.
The National Guard was practicing for their fire suppression duties. This went on all day, with multiple helicopters in the air, bucket after bucket dumped on the forest.
Some amazing footage, but alas, no carp were caught – unless they were hiding within those huge buckets of water!
Tight-Lines,
John
