I am a passionate advocate that carp fishing can not only be great fun but affordable to all.
For past 12 months I have been using, with great success, many of the products from Next Generation Tackle, rods, reels, rod-pods, bite alarms and more. For the entry level angler, or the angler on a budget, their tackle gets the job done at a very affordable price.
What I felt was missing from my tackle box was a range of terminal tackle to go along side my NGT gear. Tackle that was not only affordable but a quality product that would not fail at the critical moment.
A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to spend some time at Big Carp Tackle in person.
I got to see firsthand a new range of terminal tackle items, aptly named, “Ambush”.
From hooks, to line aligners, lead safety clips and tail rubbers, rig rings, swivels of all forms, quick clips, speed links, buffer beads, anti-tangle sleeves and more. I spent a lot of time taking a close look at the whole Ambush product range BCT had available, at each and every item, literally, every item.
I constructed rigs out of the products to ensure their interoperability. For example, I wanted to make sure that the swivels slotted firmly into the safety slips, the tail rubbers were secure but would release under tension, the line aligners would slip over the eye of a hook and so on.
Perhaps I am obsessed, but these simple things are often where some affordable tackle items fall short – it often looks good, is cheap yet does not actually work together as a full range or fails mid battle.
I am a self-confessed hook fanatic and I must say the Ambush hooks are extremely sharp, right out of the packet, to the point of impaling myself on a number of occasions. I went so far put the range of hooks through some bend tests, to see how strong they really were, the Wide Gape Teflon, Curved Shank Teflon and Choddy Hook Teflon, all passed with flying colors.
I admit, I was very surprised at not only the quality but the affordability of the Ambush range. I had finally found the terminal tackle match to pair up with the NGT products.
Upon returning home to Colorado I switched out my rigs to Ambush, banking a few nice carp in but a couple of sessions. Ambush certainly got the job done without failure, including my first mirror carp of the season!
The Ambush range is available only through Big Carp Tackle (www.bigcarptackle.com) here in the USA.
For 2015, Next Generation Tackle + the Ambush range is certain to be a great carping combination. Neither will break your wallet and will get the job done, time and time again, with fish in the net and on the matt.
There should even be enough pennies left over for an extra cup of your favorite java!
Tight-Lines,
John
